This Rough Magic: an introduction to media, history and culture

This lecture was our first introduction to Media Histories And Culture presented by Ivan.

Your medium is your magic, the animators are magicians in their own right, they create worlds and give characters souls.

Media

The Media is a powerful form of communication and come in a variety of forms from newspapers, radio, TV, the Internet and many more. We now live in a mediated society where we are constantly connected to media thorough devices such as mobile phones which can access you to an array of news headlines and the Internet which is an essential way of circulating information among people through social networking sites and advertisement banners throughout the world wide web.

Histories

Information from the past and the development of technology through time,
Animation' biggest transition is the leap from traditionally drawn animation to the CGI commonly known as computer animation where animators have to interact with computers to produce three dimensional characters and environments.

"Art challenges technology, and technology inspires the art."
— John Lasseter (director of Toy Story)

It has taken years to perfect this art form but it is never absolutely perfect, even with a film like Avatar there are many more technical challenges ahead to push realism even further.

Culture

Culture is something we follow socially and is found in many aspects of Art spanning from the latest fashion trends to culturally inspired music.
